The major isoflavones in soybean are genistein and daidzein, have a chemical structure similar to the hormone estrogen. Soybean flavones exert nongenomic actions including affecting the activity of enzymes involved in hormone synthesis and metabolism. Soybean isoflavones seem to mimic the female hormone estrogen to a degree.
