Cyanotis Vaga is a herbal perennial bulbiferous plant from the Commelinaceae family that is native totropical Africa, Yemen, Himalayas, southern China, Indochina, Java.
This plant naturally inhabits in forests or grassy slopes area at near sea level to 3300 m and it is cultivated as a natural source of a health support supplement , Beta-Ecdysterone .

Beta-Ecdysterone laso known as Ecdysteron, 20-hydroxyecdysone or 20E. It is an anabolic  sterol as well as a non androgenic substancethat found in insects, some animals that live in water, and some plants. People often use it to increase muscle mass and improve athletic performance. Ecdysterone is a moulting hormones in insects, crabs and also produced in various plants such as Cyanotis Vaga, presumably to prevent the pests from eating the plants. When an inset or crab eats a plant with ecdysterone, they will lose weight, get sick and possibly die because it causes their bodies to produce excessive amounts of the hormone. In arthropods, 20-hydroxyecdysone acts through the ecdysone receptor. Although mammals lack this receptor, 20-hydroxyecdysone may affect mammalian (including human) biological systems in vitro, but there is uncertainty whether any in vivo or physiological effects occur. 20-Hydroxyecdysone is an ingredient of some supplements that aim to enhance physical performance, but there is no clinical evidence for this effect.
