Isoprinosine&nbsp;is&nbsp;a&nbsp;medicine&nbsp;that&nbsp;contains&nbsp;an&nbsp;active&nbsp;substance&nbsp;called&nbsp;inosine&nbsp;acedoben&nbsp;dimepranol.&nbsp;It&nbsp;belongs&nbsp;to&nbsp;a&nbsp;group&nbsp;of&nbsp;medicines&nbsp;called&nbsp;immunomodulators&nbsp;with&nbsp;antiviral&nbsp;effect.&nbsp;It&nbsp;is&nbsp;used&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;treatment&nbsp;of&nbsp;herpes&nbsp;simplex&nbsp;infections,&nbsp;genital&nbsp;warts&nbsp;and&nbsp;subacute&nbsp;sclerosing&nbsp;panencephalitis&nbsp;(brain&nbsp;damage&nbsp;accompanied&nbsp;by&nbsp;mental&nbsp;deterioration&nbsp;and&nbsp;convulsions).<br />
Inosine&nbsp;pranobex&nbsp;(BAN;&nbsp;also&nbsp;known&nbsp;as&nbsp;inosine&nbsp;acedoben&nbsp;dimepranol&nbsp;(INN)&nbsp;or&nbsp;methisoprinol)&nbsp;an&nbsp;antiviral&nbsp;drug&nbsp;that&nbsp;is&nbsp;a&nbsp;combination&nbsp;of&nbsp;inosine&nbsp;and&nbsp;dimepranol&nbsp;acedoben&nbsp;(a&nbsp;salt&nbsp;of&nbsp;acetamidobenzoic&nbsp;acid&nbsp;and&nbsp;dimethylaminoisopropanol)&nbsp;in&nbsp;a&nbsp;ratio&nbsp;of&nbsp;1&nbsp;to&nbsp;3.&nbsp;Inosine&nbsp;pranobex&nbsp;has&nbsp;no&nbsp;effect&nbsp;on&nbsp;viral&nbsp;particles&nbsp;itself.&nbsp;Instead,&nbsp;it&nbsp;acts&nbsp;as&nbsp;an&nbsp;immunostimulant,&nbsp;an&nbsp;analog&nbsp;of&nbsp;thymus&nbsp;hormones.[1]&nbsp;It&nbsp;is&nbsp;most&nbsp;commonly&nbsp;used&nbsp;to&nbsp;treat&nbsp;the&nbsp;rare&nbsp;measles&nbsp;complication&nbsp;subacute&nbsp;sclerosing&nbsp;panencephalitis&nbsp;in&nbsp;conjunction&nbsp;with&nbsp;intrathecal&nbsp;interferon&nbsp;therapy.<br />
The&nbsp;immunopharmacologic&nbsp;effects&nbsp;of&nbsp;Isoprinosine&nbsp;(INPX)&nbsp;have&nbsp;been&nbsp;associated&nbsp;with&nbsp;clinical&nbsp;benefit&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;patient&nbsp;in&nbsp;a&nbsp;number&nbsp;of&nbsp;conditions&nbsp;characterized&nbsp;by&nbsp;immunodeficiency&nbsp;of&nbsp;diverse&nbsp;etiology.&nbsp;Immunodepressed&nbsp;homosexuals&nbsp;at&nbsp;risk&nbsp;of&nbsp;developing&nbsp;acquired&nbsp;immunodeficiency&nbsp;syndrome&nbsp;(AIDS)&nbsp;treated&nbsp;with&nbsp;placebo&nbsp;or&nbsp;INPX&nbsp;experienced&nbsp;an&nbsp;increase&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;function&nbsp;and&nbsp;number&nbsp;of&nbsp;immunocompetent&nbsp;cells&nbsp;associated&nbsp;with&nbsp;clinical&nbsp;improvement.&nbsp;A&nbsp;multicenter&nbsp;trial&nbsp;designed&nbsp;to&nbsp;confirm&nbsp;these&nbsp;results&nbsp;has&nbsp;demonstrated&nbsp;that&nbsp;INPX&nbsp;produced&nbsp;an&nbsp;increase&nbsp;in&nbsp;natural&nbsp;killer&nbsp;(NK)-cell&nbsp;activity,&nbsp;total&nbsp;T&nbsp;cells,&nbsp;and&nbsp;T-helper&nbsp;cells,&nbsp;with&nbsp;certain&nbsp;effects&nbsp;persisting&nbsp;for&nbsp;months&nbsp;after&nbsp;completion&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;28-day&nbsp;treatment&nbsp;period.&nbsp;
